Therapy Outdoors - A Different Way To Access Support
Have you ever considered counselling but the thought of sitting in a room has left you feeling anxious or overwhelmed? Perhaps you might find sitting in a room awkward? What if you could do something that combines the benefits of therapy with the benefit of being outside? That’s where outdoor therapy comes in.
Outdoor Therapy or Walk & Talk Therapy is therapy taken outdoors. Outdoor therapy may be suitable for individuals who feel working indoors uncomfortable or perhaps find maintaining eye contact challenging. Outdoor therapy is also ideal for individuals who find it easier to talk when they are moving. Perhaps you struggle to explain exactly what it is you are feeling, visualising it may help. Metaphors can be a powerful tool in therapy because they can help clients understand complex concepts and emotions in a more tangible way. For example, the therapist might use the metaphor of a tree to help a client understand the concept of growth and change
Research suggests spending time outdoors can have a positive impact on mental health. Offering therapy outdoors can be a great way to achieve this goal. Being outdoors can provide a more relaxed and comfortable environment, which may help you feel more at ease.
At Explore Counselling, we’re excited to offer outdoor therapy sessions. Our therapists are trained to provide the same level of care and support that you would receive in an indoor setting, but with the added benefits of taking therapy outdoors.
